Food Processing Innovation Center


The Food Product Innovation Center (FPIC) at the Mariano Marcos State University was established in 2015 through the joint efforts of the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Trade and Industry. It aims to provide the local food industry with efficient and modern food processing equipment to enhance and facilitate the production of quality products. It serves as a hub for innovations, R&D, and support services to add value on the indigenous food plants and surplus vegetables in Ilocos Norte. Through the FPIC, innovative technologies, relevant support services, technical expertise, fundamental infrastructures, and facilities will be more accessible to MSMEs in the countryside for a more effective technology utilization such as extension, deployment, and/or commercialization for inclusive economic growth and development.

Goal

To be the hub for innovations, R&D, and support facility for value-adding of indigenous food plants, surplus vegetables, meat and fishery resources for the benefit of the Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources sectors in Ilocos Norte.

Objectives

  • To serve as a facility for product prototyping and market sample preparation
  • To assists in food regulatory requirements compliance
  • To offer academic support to students and researchers of the university on their research studies
  • To provide technical assistance to MSMEs related to food processing and product shelf-life extension
  • To provide training, extension, and licensing to adopters, and leases equipment available such as spray dryer, water retort machine, freeze drier, vacuum fryer, band sealer, and vacuum packaging machine
