MMSU LHS students qualify for international science, math Olympiads

Students of the MMSU Laboratory High School (LHS) qualified for the International Mathematics Olympiad Competition of Southeast Asia (IMOCSEA) and the International Science Olympiad Competition of Southeast Asia (ISOCSEA) after excelling in the national rounds held on August 23 via Zoom.


In ISOCSEA, Secondary 4 student Klayrene Chelwin F. Capet won a gold medal, while Aevan Josh P. Jalani and Jasper John G. Tumamao each secured bronze medals. Mariella Eugenia P. Erojo received an honorable mention. Senior Secondary participants Gabriel M. Onera and Atoze A. Alonzo brought home silver and bronze medals, respectively.


Meanwhile, in IMOCSEA, Secondary 2 students Ayara Catherine Agdigos and Felix Jei Matthieu Cacayorin won silver medals, along with Secondary 3 student Matt David Barao. From Secondary 4, Capet earned a diamond medal, while Hannah Luzcille Pagdilao took silver. Senior Secondary student Alaina Rose Galapon also received silver.


Among the achievers, Capet bagged top honors in both Olympiads, achieving a rare diamond medal in mathematics and a gold medal in science.


The students were mentored by Prof. Rhea Cabrera, Prof. Mignon Cecilia Diego, and Prof. Gabriel  Galdores. 


University Lab Schools (ULS) Principal Philistia Mercuria Bagayas commended the students, expressing that their achievements demonstrate the school’s vision to cultivate critical thinking, innovation, and academic excellence. 


“Our students continue to inspire us with their brilliance and resilience. We are confident they will make our school and Mariano Marcos State University proud as they advance to Southeast Asia-wide challenges.”
The 3rd round of ISOCSEA is scheduled on September 23 via Zoom, and after, both international Olympiad rounds will take place this December 2025, in Osaka, Japan,


The IMOCSEA and ISOCSEA are both organized by the Global League of Winners, Inc. (GLOW), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting academic excellence and regional collaboration in Southeast Asia.
