The DOST โ€“ Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) and Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) entered into a joint initiative to explore nuclear science and technology. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on October 30 at PNRI Central Office in Commonwealth, Quezon City.
The MOU signing between MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. and PNRI Director Carlo Arcilla aims to strengthen scientific collaboration and promote innovation in nuclear science and technology. They were also joined by MMSU Vice President for Resource Generation and Management Bjorn Santos.
The said agreement also reflects both institutions' shared vision of pursuing strategic initiatives in research, academic collaboration, and technology development, focusing on nuclear science and its applications in various fields such as agriculture, health, energy, and environmental management.
The MOU signing marks a step following the courtesy visit of Dr. Manzano to Director Arcilla on August 7. During that visit, Dr. Arcilla expressed a strong interest in forging a partnership with MMSU and personally led a tour of the PNRI laboratories and research facilities. The visit provided both parties with an opportunity to identify potential areas of collaboration aligned with national development goals and MMSUโ€™s commitment to advancing science and technology education in Northern Luzon.
Dr. Manzano expressed optimism about the partnershipโ€™s potential to create impact in the science community in Ilocos Norte.
โ€œThis collaboration opens new avenues for research and innovation that can significantly benefit our stakeholders. By working with PNRI, we look forward to strengthening our capacity to explore peaceful and productive applications of nuclear science in agriculture, energy, and environmental sustainability,โ€ he added.
The partnership supports MMSUโ€™s thrust to be a research university that leads innovations and sustainable solutions for communities through strengthened collaboration in nuclear science and technology.
