With its commitment to student leadership, global citizenship, and international diplomacy, the Mariano Marcos State University has instituted its first-ever Model United Nations (MUN) through an oath-taking ceremony for its members and officers at the College of Arts and Sciences Audio-Visual Room on September 15.

The MUN aims to nurture globally competitive and diplomatically skilled leaders who embody MMSU’s values of excellence, innovation, and service. It serves as a platform for students to engage in constructive dialogue and policy analysis, inspiring meaningful change among the youth.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Aris Reynold V. Cajigal administered the oath to the officers and members. In his message, he lauded the initiative for cultivating culturally sensitive and socially responsible students ready to navigate the global arena.

The organization is composed of three core sectors. The Executive Committee, composed of the Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General, and Director-General, serves as the highest governing and decision-making body. The Secretariat, composed of Undersecretaries-Generals, functions as the operational and academic core. Meanwhile, the Organizing Committee is responsible for operationalizing MUN’s flagship and regional activities.

In her speech, Ms. Beatrice Acenan, MUN Secretary General, said, “This idea was birthed out of a shared passion for diplomacy and international relations, and the belief that MMSU students have the talent and drive to engage in global conversations. What started as a dream has now become a platform where we will be molded into leaders and changemakers.”

After the oath-taking ceremony, a general assembly was held to deliberate on the semester’s calendar of activities, constitution and by-laws, organizational structure, and other proceedings.
With this nascent organization, MMSU-MUN is set to engage in structured simulations with other academic institutions, launch campus-wide and community advocacy campaigns, and forge strategic partnerships with non-governmental organizations in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The present and future endeavors of MMUS-MUN align with the SUCCEED Agenda of University President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr., particularly in advancing universal quality education, comprehensive customer and community service, and a dynamic and holistic workforce.
