The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) Dingras Campus unveiled its second Rice Paddy Art featuring Dingras as the Rice Granary of Ilocos Norte, on September 9.
This year’s design pays tribute to the town’s historic role in rice production and food security. Made possible with the help of PhilRice Ilocos Norte and the Local Government Unit of Dingras, the paddy art was created by MMSU student planters, who were awarded for their craft.
Dingras Mayor Joemelle Saguid Go-Sy expressed her full support and pride in what the community has achieved together with MMSU and its partners. She states that cultural identity, agricultural pride, and the heritage of Dingras in Ilocos Norte is reflected in the art.
Ms. Bethzaida M. Catudan, Assistant Branch Director, representing DA-PhilRice Batac Branch Director Dr. Mary Ann U. Baradi, stressed the artistry behind rice production, noting how it combines creativity, diligence, and awareness.
CAFSD Dean Dr. Charlie B. Batin commended the initiative for boosting agro-tourism and agriculture program enrollment. While MS Crop Science program coordinator Dr. Jocelyn Bernabe stressed that the project represents the dedication of teachers, students, and partners.
Initiated in 2024, the rice paddy art aligns with the Republic Act No. 10816, otherwise known as the Farm Tourism Development Act, highlights Dingras' journey as a leader in agricultural education, culture, and innovation—celebrating the creativity of farmers, the resilience of the community, and the enduring role of agriculture in shaping a brighter future.
