To help researchers identify, protect, and draft intellectual property applications, the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) team of Mariano Marcos State University is holding a three-day Regional Re-Echo Training on Intellectual Property from July 7 to 9 via Zoom.
Participated by researchers, faculty, and technology generators in Region I, the training and workshop aims to empower participants to identify patentable inventions, conduct advanced patent searches, and draft effective patent claims to maximize the potential of an invention.
This webinar training is part of the program, “Strengthening the Regional Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management in Ilocos under the RAISE Program Phase 2,” funded by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST–PCAARRD).
Dr. Dionisio Bucao, MMSU research director, RAISE program leader, and Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management project leader, highlighted that the training is more than just a compliance activity or a technical upskilling session.
“It is a strategic move toward building a culture of intellectual property consciousness where ideas are not only nurtured but also protected, valued, and leveraged,” he told the participants.
Meanwhile, MMSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Aris Reynold Cajigal, representing MMSU President Virgilio Julius Manzano, Jr, emphasized the importance of intellectual property in society.
“We truly value intellectual property because we believe that every idea has the power to improve lives. Whether it’s a research paper, a new product, or a simple way to solve a problem, our ideas deserve to be protected and shared wisely,” Dr. Cajigal said.
Speakers for the three-day webinar include Engr. Carmina Maria Lorenzo for Introduction to Intellectual Property and Prior Art Search, and Specification Drafting; Engr. Rommel Villoria for X,Y, and Z Document and Invention Spotting, and Claim Drafting; and Engr. Artbellson Mamuri for Responding to Paper B.
A series of workshops will also be held where participants will craft a priority art search report, invention spotting, claims drafting, and specification drafting.
The RAISE program in Ilocos Region is a collaboration between PCAARRD, Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic Resources Research and Development Consortium, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, Pangasinan State University, and the University of Northern Philippines.
