After winning awards from the 13th World Choir Games in New Zealand in 2024, the MMSU Nasudi Chorale showcased their world-class talent in a two-day victory concert held at Teatro Ilocandia from January 29 to 30.
Titled “Illustris: Towards Greater Heights,” the concert was the group’s way of expressing gratitude to the university community for its support. The homegrown chorale performed its award-winning competition pieces alongside new selections before an audience of university officials, employees, students, and visitors.
MMSU Nasudi Chorale Choirmaster Mr. Vince Louisse Salacup thanked university officials, including Prof. Ryan Dean Sucgang, director of the Center for Human Movement Studies, for making their international debut a reality.
“The challenges we faced–such as logistical issues and selecting who would compete–were grueling. However, we focused on rigorous talent upskilling for our 25 singers, all bona fide university students,” he shared.
MMSU OIC-President Prima Fe R. Franco commended the chorale for its world-class performances and recent accolades, encouraging everyone to continue supporting homegrown talents.
According to Mr. Salacup, proceeds from the concert will fund the chorale’s upcoming engagements, including a potential performance at the iconic Carnegie Hall in New York City this June, in partnership with MidAmerica Productions. The MMSU Global Alumni has also invited the group for a concert tour across the Hawaiian Islands from mid-June to July 2025.
In August 2024, the MMSU Nasudi Chorale ranked 4th in the Philippines and 164th in the INTERKULTUR World Ranking after winning the Sacred Choral Music Acapella Open Category at the 13th World Choir Games.
