COE Maroons secures 10th championship MMSU UniGames

The College of Engineering (COE) Maroons cemented a decade of dominance by winning their 10th overall championship at the MMSU University Games 2024: Re-emerge, held from November 18 to 22. The week-long event brought excitement to the university, featuring 38 sports and 16 cultural competitions. The COE Maroons scored an overall average percentage of 51.69, proving their supremacy in both sports and cultural events.
While the COE Maroons claimed the overall championship, the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) Red Lions emerged as the new champion in sports. Meanwhile, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) Rabbis successfully retained their cultural championship title for the fourth consecutive year.
The overall rankings closely mirrored last year’s results. The College of Industrial Technology (CIT) Red Lions finished second overall with an average percentage of 48.28, while the College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA) Eagles placed fourth with an overall average of 37.84. The College of Health Sciences (CHS) Knights rounded out the top five with an average of 22.968.
Other colleges also performed well, with the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD) Tamaraws scoring an average of 20.37. The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the College of Dentistry (COD) Wizards followed with averages of 17.26. The College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology (CASAT) Blue Marlins finished with an average of 10.48, and the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) Phoenix earned an average of 10.01. The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), College of Law (COL), and College of Medicine (COM) also participated in this year’s UniGames.
During the closing ceremony, MMSU OIC-President Prima Fe R. Franco, represented by Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation Nathaniel Alibuyog, congratulated the athletes, artists, and organizers for their dedication and spirit in sustaining MMSU’s excellence in sports and culture. Reflecting on the challenges faced during the event, VP Alibuyog commended the strength and unity shown by everyone, remarking, "The spirit of the Stallions cannot be shaken. We are not just aiming for re-emergence in the regional sports; let's set our sights on the Southeast Asian Games."
In his speech, CHuMS Director Ryan Dean Sugcang praised the collective effort behind the success of the event. "We are MMSU… and we will re-emerge," he said, stressing that MMSU’s goals go beyond regional success, with a strong focus on national and international championships.
With the University Games now concluded, all eyes are on the upcoming regional, national, and international competitions. MMSU’s champions are ready to represent the university on a bigger stage. The COE Maroons, once again UniGames champions, along with the entire MMSU Stallions, are determined to continue their winning streak and aim for even greater success in the national and international arenas.
